The battle between Prof. Chukwuka Okonjo, father of Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Nigeria’s Minister of Finance, and a royal family over the Obi of Ogwashi-Uku throne, has resulted in the d*ath of a 15-year-old Ogwashi-Uku prince identified as Pentty Sunday Chukwu. He and two others were sh*t by soldiers allegedly led by a captain of the Nigerian Army. The shooting incident occurred at Ogwashi-Uku during the celebration of the community’s new yam festival last weekend. According to the police spokesman, the shooting “was done by the army, led by a Captain.” He, however, did not disclose the name of the Army Captain. He said the army were handling the issue, adding that when “they are through, they will hand over to the police for further investigation.” The Umudei Royal Family of Ogwashi-Uku in Aniocha South Local Government Area of Delta State, while demanding to know the whereabouts of their sons, alleged that the victims were shot by soldiers who also took them away to an unknown destination..

Tallest Hotel Building In West Africa Finally Unveil By Lagos State Governor

The building was indeed great and record breaking. Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola, yesterday, unveiled the N30 billion tallest hotel in West Africa, the Intercontinental Lagos. The hotel located at Kofo Abayomi Street, Victoria Island, Lagos, is a 23-storey building with 358 rooms, 37 suites and a presidential suite. The Intercontinental Lagos, a subsidiary of the Intercontinental Hotel Group, IHG, is owned by the Milan Group. Fashola said the new hotel showed that the economy of the country was witnessing growth daily but without corresponding employment. According to him, “The new sector is the tourism sector. This is the only virgin sector in the country, and it will help address the challenges of unemployment in the country.” The governor noted that the new hotel had helped to create new 650 direct jobs in the state, adding that with the construction of more hotels and hospitality outfits, more direct jobs would be created as well as numerous indirect jobs..

The four time world best, and probably world best again, Lionel Messi and his father are to appear in court, over allegations of tax fraud. The Barcelona player and his father, Jorge Messi, are accused of evading 4.2m euros (£3.4m) in tax on his image rights. They are suspected of setting up companies in Uruguay and Belize to avoid paying tax in Spain. Lagos Chief Judge Releases 119 Inmates

To those that were released, congrats. We hope you do not engage in any act of crime or get close to any one involved in crime. The Lagos Chief Judge, Justice Ayotunde Phillips, Wednesday released 119 awaiting trial inmates from the Maximum and Medium Security Prison, Kirikiri, Lagos. At least 99 inmates secured freedom from the medium security prison while 20 were released from the maximum security prison. They included inmates believed to be brothers – Dare and Dada Egbebunmi. The released inmates were believed to be on awaiting trial list for over 13 years. The exercise was aimed at decongesting the prisons and in exercise of the Chief Judge’s powers under Section 1 (1) of the Criminal Justice Release from Custody Special Provision Act CAP C40, 2007, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria. Justice Phillips had earlier released 279 inmates from the Kirikiri Maximum and Medium Security Prisons and Ikoyi prisons last year..

UNFORTUNATE; Man Knocked Down By Hit And Run Motorists And Other Cars Ran Over Him

Residents of the Olopomeji end of Oworonshoki Expressway, Lagos State on Monday were thrown into mourning after one of them, identified only as Emmanuel, was crushed by a vehicle while attempting to cross the expressway. photo It was gathered that after the deceased was knocked down by the vehicle, other oncoming vehicles heading towards the Third Mainland Bridge also ran over him. The photo was not pleasing to the eyes so the CORRESPONDENT learnt. It was also gathered that the corpse was left on the road for hours until emergency officials arrived the scene. Relatives of the deceased were seen crying on the scene of the accident while the corpse was being conveyed into an ambulance. Residents, however, blamed the government over the incident. It had been reported in June 2013 that the Chairman, Kosofe Local Government, Lagos State, Mr. Babatunde Sofola, ordered the sealing of the pedestrian bridge due to its derelict state. It had also been reported that the bridge, which was constructed by the Federal Government in the 1970s had been in a state of disrepair for over two years..

Whats the medical explanation of this? Could this be called milk teeth? A mother has spoken of her shock after she gave birth to a baby with two fully formed front teeth. Vicki Griffiths had planned to breastfeed little Eva Faith but changed her mind after seeing the newborn’s teeth. Eva astounded nurses and midwives as well as her family when she was born weighing 7lbs 4oz at the James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough. Initially, nobody realised and it was only when Mrs Griffiths went to have a bath after giving birth that her husband Steven spotted the teeth in his daughter’s lower jaw. Mrs Griffiths, a 26-year-old child minder, said: ‘When I came back into the room Steven said, “she’s got teeth, you know!” and then we both burst out laughing. ‘We were in shock, and so were the midwives. She had her mouth closed to begin with, so we didn’t notice. It was quite bizarre to see them.’ She added: ‘I had been planning to breastfeed, but when I saw Eva’s teeth I was put off. I don’t think anybody could blame me!’ Mr and Mrs Griffiths now worry that Eva will soon start sprouting more teeth before she is old enough to have Calpol or other children’s medicine. Lagos State Ex-Deputy Governor To Face Trial On Fraud Issue

IAAF Medalist Receives Her Prize From The President

There is always a reward for hard work and excellence. President Goodluck Jonathan Wednesday tasked the National Sports Commission (NSC) and other sports stakeholders to ensure that Nigeria wins as many gold medals as possible at the 2016 Olympic Games, scheduled for Rio, Brazil. Multiple Crashes On Collapse Bridge K*lling About 23 Persons

This is the EMBER MONTH, we should be more careful and prayerful. There were multiple crashes in Katsina due to a collapse bridge. The first crash involved a bus conveying 24 passengers which plunged into the bridge few minutes after its collapse on Monday night. According to the witness, the bridge collapsed at about 9.30p.m. due to heavy downpour and moments after the bus with registration number XA 328 KZR, conveying passengers from Kano to Katsina, fell into the bridge. The villagers said efforts made to alert the bus driver was to no avail as he was on high speed. The bus and the passengers were swept by the heavy current and some of the d*ad bodies were recovered miles away in Ajiwa area, the villagers and officials told NAN. NAN also gathered that only two of the passengers in the bus, including a student of Federal College of Education, Bichi in Kano state, survived the incident..

Lagos State Government Banned Molue, Commercial Buses From Lagos Island

Is this really important? Months after the ban on Okada, Lagos State Government under the leadership of Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola has banned commercial buses widely called Molue from operating on Lagos Island. Effective immediately, Lagos has banned Molue riders from operating on bridges like the 3rd Mainland, Eko & Carter Bridges. Molue operators are no longer allowed to operate in the Central Business District of the state. LASG said the decision was made in order to monitor commercial bus operators as regards compliance with traffic rules and regulations..
